Another milestone in the energy transition has been reached: The Wetzen Solar Park in the district of Lüneburg (Lower Saxony) has been successfully commissioned and handed over to the operator enercity Erneuerbare GmbH. Covering an area of approximately 22 hectares, the plant will generate solar power for an estimated 5.000 households and serves as a model of partnership and collaboration on equal terms.

IBC SOLAR as a reliable Partner

As the project developer and general contractor, IBC SOLAR took on the complete implementation of the project – from development and planning through construction to successful commissioning. The Wetzen Solar Park exemplifies what IBC SOLAR stands for: efficient, on-time execution of solar park projects from a single source – and a smooth transition to operation.

Construction took approximately four months. Despite challenging soil conditions, the project was implemented smoothly. Sandy soils, as well as partially marshy or water-bearing layers, are typical of the Lüneburg region and can pose special challenges for foundations and construction site logistics. These challenges were successfully overcome during the course of the project.

Strong partnership with enercity Erneuerbare

With the Wetzen Solar Park, enercity Erneuerbare is strategically expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The collaboration between the two companies has been consistently positive, and the current operator is correspondingly satisfied with the project’s progress and implementation. Thanks to optimized processes and close cooperation, the share purchase agreement, including the transaction, was completed in less than two months.

Regional value creation integrated

Local companies were also involved in the implementation, particularly in the area of construction site logistics. Long-term maintenance of the facility’s green spaces will also be handled by regional businesses. This represents an important contribution to local value creation.

High-Performance technology for sustainable energy

The project utilizes inverters from Sungrow and solar modules from Tongwei. With an installed capacity of 20 megawatts, the solar park will generate approximately 20,643 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.

This corresponds to CO₂ savings of about 10,000 tons per year (based on an average emission factor for the German electricity mix of approximately 0.4-0.45 kg CO₂/kWh).

Another step toward the energy transition

With projects such as the Wetzen Solar Park, IBC SOLAR underscores its role as a leading project developer and EPC service provider in the utility-scale segment. From initial planning through to the long-term operational phase, the company provides reliable support to its partners, thereby laying the foundation for tomorrow’s sustainable energy supply.
